RESUM

La producció prosística de la literatura catalana als segles XVII i XVIII va estar força discreta. Tradicionalment la historiografia literària la catalogava sota l’etiqueta de la Decadència i a tot estirar recollia només els poetes més destacats (F. V. Garcia, F. Fontanella i J. Romaguera) i alguns historiadors. És en aquest context d’incúria historiogràfica on cal entendre la manca d’atenció que ha rebut una novel·la cavalleresca breu com és el Pierres de Provença, que té la peculiaritat d’ésser una traducció des del francés a través del castellà. Entre les esparses al·lusions fetes a la novel·la des de finals del segle XIX solem trobar molt poca informació rellevant, de manera que a penes podríem omplir una entrada no massa extensa en un diccionari de literatura. L’objectiu de l’article és revisar què s’ha dit sobre una novel·la que ha estat massa temps a l’ombra per tal de poder decidir futures línies d’investigació.

ABSTRACT

The production of the Catalan literature in prose in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was quite discreet. Traditionally the historiography of our literature catalogued it with the label of Decline and just reflected the work of the most outstanding poets (F. V. Garcia F. Fontanella and J. Romaguera) and some historians. It’s in this context of historiographical negligence that we must understand the lack of attention that has received a brief chivalric novel such as Pierres de Provence, which has the peculiarity of being a translation from the French via Spanish. Among the scattered references made to the novel since the late nineteenth century we usually find very little relevant information, so that we could barely fill a quite short entry in a dictionary of literature. The aim of this article is to check what has been said about a novel that has been too long in the shade, so that future lines of research can be decided.
