The Use of Experiments as an Active Learning Methodology in Economy Iniciation Courses: an Experience

Abstract

This work presents a teaching experience introducing Economics experiments in the classroom as a means to achieve active learning and facilitates the implementation of the experiments proposed by Bergstrom and Miller (2008) by providing complementary teaching materials. In particular, it provides (i) a power point presentation of their market experiment under perfect competition, (ii) an Excel file that endows the instructor with full control over the activity and enables him/her to conduct the experiment, present the results and place them within the theory in one class of about 100 minutes, and (iii) various exercises to be done by the students as homework and graded by the instructor.
