A contrastive analysis of the particle "as" in literary and technical English
Abstract
Along with the conceptual meaning of discourse, engineering students should identify and understand the use of those language devices which are typical of technical English. The particle as is one of the most frequent lexical devices of the English language because of the wide range of functions it can develop.
In the present work we analyse the uses of as in general and technical English based on a corpus of about 15,000 words for each variety of English.
The results obtained in this study will help us identify the real uses of particle as in general and technical English to develop more efficient reading skills and strategies.
