'Methodology in Context': An Innovative and Reflective Proposal for Second Acquisition Languages Professors


Abstract


The emphasis on communication in authentic contexts, the attention to the learners? individual needs, and the consideration of sound principles for the learning and teaching of second languages (L2) have constituted very positive achievements for language teaching methodology in these first decades of the XXI century. With the overall aim of promoting an emic orientation for the field, the main goal of this paper is to define the notion of methodology in context linked to the reflection about social factors in second language acquisition, recent trends in the Communicative Approach, post-methodological macrostrategies for language teaching, local conditions within the L2 classroom, institutional and sociopolitical issues, and the action research process.
