Dear friends and colleagues,
We are writing to announce a call for papers on "Active Digital Education" for issue 32 of Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (REALIA), which will be coordinated by Dr Emma Whewell, Dr Helen Caldwell, Alison Power and Rob Howe.
The aim of this special issue is to share best practice and innovations with a wider audience. It will focus specifically on the use of digital technologies in education. Innovative digital technologies can pave the way for new pedagogical approaches that emphasise active participation, social inclusion and collaborative innovation. Active Digital Education (ADE) is a pedagogical approach to designing and teaching using digital tools. This concept has been developed at the University of Northampton to complement their pedagogical approach of Active Blended Learning (ABL). ADE recognises that digital tools can be harnessed to facilitate the co-construction of knowledge. It taps into ways in which technology can facilitate the capture and exchange of ideas creating opportunities for critical reflection and self-directed learning. Such active co-creation has the potential to build employability skills consistent with the transformative ambitions of the Sustainable Development Goals, most notably number 4, Quality Education.
OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE
This special issue will focus on papers that analyse one or more of the following areas:
- Developing ADE with emerging technologies
- Studies on the effectiveness of digital pedagogies
- ADE and diverse, equitable and inclusive practice
- Theories and principles underpinning ADE
- ADE and Artificial Intelligence, Distance Learning, Game Based Learning, or eXtended Reality.
- Embedding ADE into teaching and learning
