La representación audiovisual de la inutilidad de la clasetrabajadora en el capitalismo post-industrial: un análisisdiscursivo de la segunda temporada de The Wire
Resumen
Sobre The Wire (HBO, 2002-2008) se suele afirmar que es capaz de mostrar y representar las consecuencias del capitalismo salvaje, tanto el fracaso de las instituciones como los efectos que las transformaciones socioeconómicas tienen sobre los individuos. Partiendo de una consideración del capitalismo no sólo como un sistema económico sino como el principal discurso del mundo contemporáneo (es decir, el generador y reproductor de una serie de nociones y narrativas que configuran el modo en que los sujetos se definen y consideran a sí mismos como tal y entienden su entorno), este artículo pretende analizar la representación que The Wire hace de los estibadores del puerto de Baltimore, presentados en la serie como un conjunto de trabajadores en un contexto económico post-industrial y financiero que ya no los necesita. Para ello, se hará un análisis textual de un conjunto de secuencias y escenas de la segunda temporada de la serie con la intención de explorar cómo la configuración audiovisual de la serie ayuda a presentar la artificialidad y construcción del discurso hegemónico del capitalismo contemporáneo.
