Open Course Ware's Light and Shadows: Towards the OCW 2.0

Abstract

Open Course Ware is an altruistic initiative for higher education that has benefits for both students and professors, and institutions that promote it. But it also has certain limitations that might be diminished partly if decision makers looked at the future from a more ambitious perspective in order to guarantee not only open repositories, but also teaching assessment and degreegranting. It would require imaginative and engaged solutions to some key issues, but it could be a reasonable answer for the impending worldwide demand for higher education. The bases for this sort of OCW 2.0 are built already.
